Summary February 20 – 26

Well aside from a bit of a gap in the training log this week, I think I did fairly well.  The foot has been holding up with only the odd little twinge, which is something that has me tickled pink.

Work kind of got in the way towards the end of the week but even though I didn’t have the chance to do a proper workout for a few days, there was a crap ton of stairs being climbed so I think of it as impromptu hill work.

My run on Sunday was supposed to just be 5 km to ease back into running but once I got going, I just kept going until I made myself head for home.  I must be missing running the trails.  I’ve been out there with the dogs but there’s something different about running alone.

So without further delay:

Monday February 20 – 40 minutes elliptical (40 minutes) hill interval level 13

Tuesday February 21 – 40 minutes treadmill

  • Incline Bench Press – 3 sets @ 15 lbs/12 reps
  • Lat pulldown – 1 set 12 reps @ 50 lbs/2 sets 12 reps @ 60 lbs
  • Plank 3 sets 30 second hold
  • Bent leg deadlift – 3 sets 12 reps @ 80 lbs
  • Kettlebell swing – 3 sets 12 reps @ 35 lbs

Wednesday February 22 – 40 minutes treadmill (hill intervals)

  • Plank – 3 sets 35 second hold
  • Row in half seat on Bosu – 1 set 12 reps @ 100 lbs/2 sets 12 reps @ 110 lbs
  • Back extension – 3 sets 12 reps @ 5 lbs

Thursday February 23 – Zip

Friday February 24 – Zilch

Saturday February 25 – Nada

Sunday February 26 – 7 km (42:21 minutes) Most of the run was through my local trails.  While they aren’t particularly challenging, the uneven snow adds an extra bit of a challenge.  But looking at this scenery, can you blame me for staying out longer than I planned?

And the diet?  Pretty dang good if I do say so myself.  Nothing was really pretty enough for photos but trust me: tasty eats abound.  I made a big batch of cassoulet which kept me fed for most of the week.  It was particularly good when I tossed a big handful of baby spinach and kale on top for some greenery.  I did have a few slices of pizza and over a couple of days I was living on coffee but considering how many amazing food places I have around work, I think I did pretty well staying on my prepared meals.

  2. Sounds like a great week!!! It looked like that sunset was beautiful! I love runs with the gorgeous views. It really does make it hard to go back inside! I admire you for all that strength training… one day… one day I will get motivated to start lifting weights hahhah.

    1. Wellllllll it would be better if the strength training were more consistent but thanks! I’ll take it😁 Do you ever find the outdoor runs are more distracting than indoor? I sometimes find myself admiring beautiful scenery instead of, you know, running…
